Who are Properly Protected?

We are a specialist Independent Financial Adviser company, with 29 years’ experience in the industry. From looking after Professional sportspeople, such as footballers and rugby players back in the days of Combined Insurance Of America, we even insured the likes of Ryan Giggs, the England Rugby squad, Frankie Dettori and many big names in most sports!

How did you get into racing?

Being an ex-racer myself, I was asked to insure and look after clubs and riders exclusively for the past ten years. Using our combined knowledge and relationships with the entire insurance protection market, to source and cover the needs of riders and their families. Offering Personal injury cover and life insurance alongside mortgages/investments and pensions where necessary.

This naturally evolved to looking after track day riders and many other sports too. The name Properly Protected was then introduced by Simon when it became apparent many riders, their families and businesses didn’t have suitable cover in place. Our Whole of Market status and expertise ensured we could search the entire UK Insurance market to source the correct cover for our customers. Time and time again, we find that many clients have inadequate cover for their needs, so I always worked to get them Properly Protected, and trade marked the blue thumb which has become a trusted symbol in the market place.

How did you start sponsoring Pete?

I’ve known Pete for around ten years thanks to being in and about the racing paddocks, at both short circuits and roads. After following Pete for a number of years, his sheer talent on roads and short circuits stood out, added to that his easy-going no-nonsense character matched our company philosophy perfectly. Our relationship grew from that admiration and I chose Pete out of all the riders many years ago to set up a connection with. My fascination and belief in his abilities on the roads and circuits has only grown over the years and it has been incredible to be a part of Pete’s ongoing success over the years.

I also wanted to support/ promote our relationship due to him being one of the most charismatic riders I have met. Like the legend Rossi, he has such an infectious character and wins votes and followers everywhere he goes.

What’s been your favourite memory?

With Pete, I think my most memorable event was the IOM TT 2018 where he achieved the fastest ever lap of the famous Mountain Circuit, even after running off the track! What an amazing race and incredibly inspirational as he looked and sounded like he had more to give.

Elsewhere in racing, I love going to the MotoGP, BSB and the Ulster GP with my father as my family are all still in N Ireland and keen Motorcycle sports fans. I think one of my personal best memories was getting to ride on the back of Randy Mamola at the Silverstone GP – what a feeling!
