Sponsor Spotlights – Suomy
Last year you might have noticed that I teamed up with Suomy crash helmets for the first time. I’ve been a big fan of
the brand for a while, and it was great to partner with them – I even ran a unique competition for one fan to win a helmet in their own design, which I wore at the final round at Brands Hatch!
I’ll be wearing the SR-GP again for -2021 and fans on my social media might have seen that Suomy has also just unveiled a brand new Hicky replica helmet (get yours HERE). With testing just around the corner, I thought I would catch up with them as part of my Sponsor Spotlight series…
How did you meet Peter?
Perhaps surprisingly, we have never actually met in person, but we have been following him closely for a number of years, probably since the 2014 Isle of Man TT when he was riding the Trooper MV Agusta F3.
What made you want to start working with Peter?
Peter is a great rider, with a spectacular style and the record holder at the TT. Since the TT is such an extreme race, where the helmet must be at the top of performance, for us, it is a great way to promote the brand and the credibility of the product.
Of course, it’s not just the TT. BSB is also interesting for Suomy. Above all, though, Peter is a fantastic sportsman, and his testimonials and popularity helps to keep fans connected. We are very proud to support him because he is exactly the right ambassador and in line with Suomy’s sponsorship story in SBK.
Tell us a little about Suomy?
Thanks to the sponsorship of some of the most popular SBK riders of the history, the recognizable images and solid product have helped to make the history of the brand. Over the years, Suomy has continuously renewed our legendary heritage.
Suomy was born in 1996 as a racing-oriented helmet company, and for over 20 years many world championship level riders have worn Suomy helmets. This has given us precious technical support and valuable practical advice, ensuring we can continuously improve the product.
Many World Champions of MotoGP and Superbike have worn Suomy, including the likes of Troy Bayliss, Max Biaggi, Loris Capirossi, Troy Corser, Neil Hodgson, James Toseland, Scott Russell, Andrea Dovizioso, and many other famous riders like Aaron Slight, Ben Bostrom, Antony Gobert, Ruben Xaus.
Suomy wants to continue the tradition through important sponsorships and new products derived from the extreme experiences of the track. These scenarios are crucial for the development of all kinds of helmets.
Suomy is currently reorganizing the marketing with new people and new initiatives, and over the coming years, we will focus strongly on our sponsorships and on social networks to increase the brand image and the credibility of our products. In particular, we are focused on racing sponsorship in MotoGP (with Bagnaia and Bastianini) and MXGP.
We have a busy program of renewal of our helmets which includes not only the continuous development of racing helmets but also the development of new GT on-road and off-road helmets.
Favourite race to attend?
The Isle of Man TT for sure! It’s a real shame that it has been cancelled again for 2021, we had plans for both 2020 and this year, so we are really hoping to be there next year!
What are you looking forward to most in 2021?
We’re expecting an important season and are looking forward to the opportunity to promote our brand and our product through Peter!
We have recently launched a Hicky replica crash helmet, which customers can buy now, so we are excited to see how this goes.
Best Hicky memory?
We’ve only been working together for a year, but we are always amazed at the pics of Peter riding the mountain and the TT!
